Honoring Deployed Service Members and First Responders

Today is the Day of the Deployed, and later this week is National First Responders Day.

The Day of the Deployed was founded by Soldiers’ Angels to honor the brave men and women who have been deployed and the sacrifices made by both service members and the families who support them. It began through the efforts of Soldiers’ Angels volunteer Shelle Michaels Aberle, whose cousin, David Hosna, was serving in Iraq. October 26 was chosen in honor of David’s birthday. As a member of Soldiers’ Angels myself and proud supporter of its mission, the heart behind this day is especially meaningful to me.

That detail makes today even more personal for me, because October 26 is my dad’s birthday. Also named David, he was a veteran, and I come from a military family on both sides of my family tree. That is a big part of why I am so appreciative of those who serve, those who have served, and the families who carry that service with them too.

To our deployed service members: thank you for your sacrifice, commitment, and courage. To the families at home thinking of them, missing them, supporting them, and keeping life moving while they are away, thank you too. To our first responders, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and others who serve in emergency response roles: thank you for showing up when others need help most. To all of you: your service is not taken for granted.

Estate planning matters for those who serve and respond too. When your work involves risk, unpredictable schedules, deployments, emergencies, or being the person others count on in crisis, having your own planning in place can provide peace of mind for you and the family waiting, worrying, and supporting you at home. A thoughtful estate plan can help make sure the right people have authority to act if needed, your wishes are documented, and your loved ones have clarity if the unexpected happens.

At Inspired Estate Planning, one small way the firm shows appreciation year-round is by offering a 20% discount on estate planning services for active military, veterans, and first responders. To those serving, those deployed, those who have served, and those who respond when emergencies happen: thank you. Your work matters, your sacrifice matters, and your families matter too.
