Happy American Business Women’s Day!

As an American businesswoman myself, and as an estate planning attorney, I want to recognize and celebrate the women who build, lead, create, manage, serve, and make things happen every single day.

To my fellow businesswomen: your work matters. Your leadership matters. The businesses you are building matter. And because of that, your planning matters too.

For all business owners, not just my fellow ladies out there, estate planning should not exist in a vacuum. Your personal estate plan and your business plan should work together. That may include thinking through who has authority to act if you cannot, what happens to your business if you become incapacitated or pass away, whether your governing documents and estate plan are coordinated, and how your family, clients, employees, or business partners would be impacted.

A strong plan can help protect not only what you have built, but also the people who depend on you and the business you have worked so hard to create. Today, I am cheering on my fellow American businesswomen and encouraging you to make sure your estate and business planning are working together, not against each other.
